All-Comers kicks off Marshals track season

  DRAFFENVILLE – Paducah Tilghman swept boys and girls team victories Saturday in the Marshall County All-Comers meet, the outdoor track and field opener, at Traylor Stadium.

  The Marshals were second and the Lady Marshals tied for third place in the meet, which was delayed by weather from its originally scheduled date of Tuesday, March 14.

  Marshall County’s Jackson Yates finished in a dead heat with Calloway County’s Cameron Cooper in the 1600-meter run. Yates was declared the winner by a few inches.

  Audrey Grizzard took a first-place finish for the Lady Marshals in the pole vault. Sydney Temple took second to make it a 1-2 sweep for Marshall County in that event.

  Other second-place finishes were scored by Kirsten Walker (shot put), Jackson Brown (110-meter hurdles), Zach Fiser (discus) and Cameron Thurman (shot put).

  Tanner Clough finished third in the 200-meter dash, with Brown and Wade Derington in order behind him to round out the top five.

  Christian Cosner got third place in the 1600-meter run and Bryce Ladd was third in the pole vault.

  In team standings, the Tilghman boys totaled 153 points to 88.5 for Marshall County, 86 for Murray, 80 for Calloway County and 32.5 for Fulton County.

  Christian Fellowship recorded four points and placed seventh. Richy Phillips finished eighth in the shot put and ninth in the discus for the Eagles.

  The Tilghman girls won with 105 points, narrowly edging Murray’s 102. Marshall County and Calloway County tied with 58 and Fulton County was fifth with 30.

  Nine teams competed in boys and girls events.

THIS WEEK: Marshall County and Christian Fellowship athletes are scheduled to travel to Murray for the Calloway County All-Comers meet this afternoon and will return to Traylor Stadium for the 20th annual Invitational of the South on Saturday.

  NEXT MEET: The Marshals and Lady Marshals will compete in the Racer Relays High School Invitational at Murray State University on Saturday, April 1. CFS is scheduled to take part in the Murray High All-Comers meet on March 28.
