The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in connection with the drug overdoses of two brothers, one of whom died as a result and one who is recovering.
Arrested last week were Thomas “Jared” Hardin, 23, and Jevan Sheppard, 25. Hardin was charged with second-degree manslaughter and trafficking in synthetic drugs. Sheppard was charged with one count of trafficking in synthetic drugs and one count of firearm-enhanced trafficking in synthetic drugs. Hardin is lodged in the McCracken County Jail. Sheppard is lodged in the the Marshall County Detention Center.
Karson and Taylor May of Calvert City were found unresponsive in their residence on Mar. 14 of drug overdoses. Taylor May was pronounced dead at the scene and Karson May spent several days in a Paducah Hospital.
Through investigation, the sheriff’s office discovered both had overdosed on U-47700 also known as U4 or Pink on the street. Over the course of the investigation, detectives with both the Marshall and McCracken County Sheriff’s Department interviewed several people and obtained search warrants.
Investigators say they found white powder believed to be U-47700 packaged for sale, other drugs, a digital scale, numerous loaded guns and a drug ledger, along with $20,000, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Authorities say they believe Sheppard suppled the drug to Hardin, who then sold it to the May brothers. They say more arrests may follow.
